The Route - Paddle
five miles or one hundred miles!
If you want to laze away a sunny day on the River Wye,
paddle along one of Britain's most beautiful rivers. Tremendous
views of the Black Mountains and Hay Bluff can be seen to
the South with 'Kilvert' Country and Clyro to the North.
The River Wye from Glasbury is ideal for family trips with
only a few Grade 1-2 small rapids. A wide range of wildlife
can be seen on the river and around the river banks. On route
you can stop at selected places to take a break or have a
small BBQ. Please note all litter must be taken with you as
the river is used by many paddlers, fishermen and most of
all the wildlife.
A half day will take you to Hay-on-Wye,
about two hours down stream. Hay is famous for its second-hand
bookshops, holidaymakers come from all over the world to the
`Book' capital of Britain and now everywhere you look bookshops,
printshops and antique dealers make this a great place to
visit.
A full day trip will allow you plenty of time to relax
and enjoy a BBQ takeaway and some fresh goddies from the River
Cafe. Pass under the old tollbridge before you end your trip
with a drink at the Boat Inn at Whitney.
Facilities
The Centre itself is ideally placed just metres east of
the river bridge in Glasbury offering its own launch facilities
as well as changing rooms with showers, toilets etc. We
also have a small local information room with handy info
on local activities and accommodation and contact details
of the official canoe associations. Enjoy fresh food and
coffee at our River Cafe Glasbury across the yard. |

The Boats
We have a large fleet of first class Canadian canoes for two
to three people plus a selection of single & double kayaks.
All canoes come with paddles, buoyancy aids and helmets. Spray
decks and skegs are available for the kayaks if required. We
have a wide range of kayaks to suit all abilities from basic
novice boats to the more adventurous playboats with neoprene
spray decks.
Safety!
A moving river is no place to paddle on your own for saftey
reasons and we do not allow solo paddling, it is always recommended
to paddle with 2 or more persons. We do not allow children
under the age of 3... Buoyancy aids must be worn at all times
even on a hot day! We will give you a basic 'paddle chat'
on the strokes required to control your boat on the river.
